Thankful Thursday - Faith

Who or what are you trusting in today? What or who are you placing confidence in today?

Last month I traveled to Dallas, Texas to attend the Conversations '10 Conference. I had confidence in the airlines and the pilots that I would arrive safely. When I climbed into the shuttle in Dallas, I also trusted the driver to take me safely to my destination. Why is it that we trust a pilot or a shuttle driver that we have never met before, but struggle with trusting God through challenging situations in our lives?

Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

Did you notice in this scripture there are no exceptions? God commands us to trust in HIM with ALL our heart. He didn't say with most of our heart we were to trust HIM. The word ALL is inclusive. No exceptions. No leaks. No room for doubt.

I rest assured that God gives me constant care. Hebrews 13: 5,6 says that He will never leave us or forsake us. He has made that promise to you and I. That's a great promise. God consistently cares for His children. We are to cast all our anxiety and all of our worries upon Him. His consistent care for us is not occasional or sporadic. His care is complete, not partial. His care is sovereign. Nothing can touch you or I without first touching God. That brings comfort and peace to my soul.

When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we can't trust anyone - not even God. But God knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than even we are! We must trust Him completely in every choice we make. This does not mean we cannot study the options and make intelligent decisions, or that we should have no confidence in our ability. It means, however, that we must not be wise in our own eyes. We should always be willing to listen to and be corrected by others. Bring your decisions to God in prayer, use the Bible as your guide; and then do what is right.

Last month I spoke at the Penn-Del District Pastor's Wives Retreat in PA.  It was an awesome weekend!  Sunday morning as I prepared to approach the platform to speak the electricity went out!  No lights.  No microphone.  For a second I began to panic because there didn't seem to be light enough for me to see my notes.  Secondly, we were in the conference center and I was afraid my voice would not carry but God showed up and it worked!

Charles H. Spurgeon was England's best-known preacher in the 1800's. He often preached to audiences of 10,000 without a PA system. He said one time, "I would recommend you either believe God to the hilt, or else not to believe at all. Believe this book of God, every letter of it, or else reject it. There is no logical standing place between the two."

I am thankful today for a God who loves me enough that He gave His only Son to die for my sins. My prayer today is that I will learn to trust HIM with ALL my heart in ALL circumstances.

I am thankful that even though I am so unworthy of all God has blessed me with, He loved me enough to call me to ministry.

I am thankful for the many opportunities God places in my path to minister and witness to others about His saving grace and incredible forgiveness.

  2. Vanilla cream here. I like your list as well, I also help lead music at my church. I have dogs too, Tessa and Buddy but they weigh less than 10 pounds together! Writing, rocks and Biblical Studies are my hobbies. I would eat chicken at every meal if I could Mexican and Chinese. I enjoy reading your devos.

Faith and Trust are truly challenged in the everyday little things like PA systems, things we don't thing about but use.

  3. I tend to forget to "trust" God when making decisions. Psalms 33:21 helps me remember that being able to trust God is something that actually brings me joy.

Girl. I giggled over your dogs names. Delightful. You are delightful and I LOVED this: "I would recommend you either believe God to the hilt, or else not to believe at all. Believe this book of God, every letter of it, or else reject it. There is no logical standing place between the two."

Amen.. AMEN. See you again Thursday. Love and hugs, Lynn
