Praise the Lord! My hubby's surgery is over and was very successful. We left our home at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning and arrived at the Fairfax Hospital at 5:30 a.m. Bobby's surgery was scheduled at 7:30 a.m. The surgery took 2.5 hours. One of the concerns was the amount of scar tissue from the previous surgery 14 years ago. There was a risk of tearing the lining on the spinal cord when removing this tissue. The surgeon told us yesterday afternoon that the scar tissue was considerably more than the MRI indicated. He was at the point of completing the surgery because he had removed alot of tissue and was fearful of causing a problem with the lining of the spinal cord. At that point he looked down and he said everything just moved out of the way and a fragment from the vertebrae the size of the end of your pinky finger appeared and he was able to remove it and complete the surgery. PRAISE GOD! When he told us this story I reassured him that it was a result of all the prayers that have been reaching heaven for Bobby. The surgeon told us that the fragment had been pressing on a nerve on his spine and that is why he was experiencing such intense pain.
God is so good and we are so thankful for all the prayers, love and concern for my hubby. He most likely will not be released from the hospital until Friday. The pain is no longer in his leg and he is actually able to lie down in comfort! That is an incredible achievement since he has spent the last 34 days walking and standing much of the day and night. They plan to get him up this morning.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers. Please continue to keep him in your prayers as he recovers. There is always a chance of infection after surgery but we know God has His hands upon him and is totally in control of this situation.
Life here remains hectic throughout the month of December. Bobby will be out of the pulpit until next year so my responsibilities have extremely expanded. God is awesome and I know He will provide the strength and resources to accomplish the tasks that are before me.
